Description

The HP 51A (standard yield) and HP 51X (high yield) are the monochrome all-in-one black toner cartridges built for the classic HP LaserJet P3005 workhorse series and its companion multi-function models.

This generation utilizes HP’s robust All-in-One cartridge layout, locking the magnetic toner supply, developer roller assembly, long-life primary charge roller (PCR), and the internal organic photoconductor (OPC) drum cylinder inside a single heavy-duty plastic frame.

Complete Hardware Compatibility Matrix:

This heavy-duty cartridge chassis slides directly into the following mid-to-high volume black and white printing devices:

  • LaserJet P3005 / P3005d / P3005n / P3005dn / P3005x

  • LaserJet MFP M3027 / M3027x

  • LaserJet MFP M3035 / M3035xs

Technical Specifications & Part Numbers:

For inventory management and database cross-referencing, the physical differences between the standard and high-yield versions are critical to note:

Feature Standard Yield (51A) High Yield (51X)
HP Part Number Q7551A Q7551X
Page Yield Approximately 6,500 pages Approximately 13,000 pages
Color Profile Monochrome (Black) Monochrome (Black)
Testing Standard ISO/IEC 19752 (5% coverage) ISO/IEC 19752 (5% coverage)

⚠️ Physical Shell Compatibility Exception: The baseline desktop model—the single-function HP LaserJet P3005 (Standard Base Model)—carries a restricted internal plastic ceiling guide panel that only accepts the standard Q7551A cartridge. The deeper, high-capacity hopper belly of the Q7551X will hit this structural block and prevent the printer door from closing. However, the P3005d, dn, n, x, and the M3027/M3035 MFPs feature a revised internal cavity designed to accept either the 51A or 51X profiles seamlessly.

Key Technical & Component-Level Sourcing Notes:

  • Canon Cross-Reference (Engine Twin): This durable hardware generation was co-developed alongside Canon. The physical plastic guide framework and internal mechanisms of the HP Q7551A/X match the layout of the Canon CRG-110 / CRG-110H cartridge series (utilized inside the Canon LBP-3460 printer track). Note: The tracking chips utilize distinct firmware structures unique to each brand.

  • Component-Level Rebuilding Parameters: For factory remanufacturing, parts sorting, or quality assurance testing:

    • OPC Drum Core: Relies on a standard 30mm diameter green or blue aluminum drum cylinder assembly.

    • Magnetic Roller: Requires a high-lubricity magnetic sleeve matching the high-torque, rapid throughput requirements of the engine (printing up to 35 pages per minute).

  • Smart Chip Tracking: A legacy electronic contact chip is fitted onto the top handle array. It primarily manages page countdown telemetry. In most non-original configurations, a missing or unprogrammed chip will prompt a “Non-HP Supply Installed” message on the control panel, but the engine will allow manual override to continue printing.
